Theft ‘a me heart.”   There’s no keeping the grin off of his face, he craves her near him, loves to know she loves him. Paul is a romantic, a charmer, but he genuinely enjoys his time with Daphne.  ( What he enjoys when she’s not around is irrelevant. )  She makes him feel good about himself,  LOVED,  if only it happens to be his own love he’s translating. No, it must be something that flows both ways, surely. He puts on a macho-facade, clearly exaggerated &  for the sake of an alluring, flirtacious effect.  “ If y ’ return it,  I’ll see to it y ’ don’t wind up in th ’ big ‘ouse . . next t ’ the publicly LUDE  &  th ’ PISSED. ”  He just wants her close to him. Whether her lips grace his own or not, it’s knowing she’s  HIS  that fills him with that warmth inside.
