“Having a vision and making it come true. Its worth it.”
Page had this VISION for a long time, &&. it was finally going
to come true, even if it ended with a TRAGIC STORY, that he
didn’t count on during these days. But everyone has a story that
will define them, that’ll express them, the work they do. Jimmy got
a little taste of that in The Yardbirds, the looked to him for the sounds.“Suppose you’re right. But passion is what drives the creative
minds of today, back in the day or old it was different. Others
told you when the record needed to be out, when the time
frame was to BE CUT, you didn’t have the time you needed.”DEADLINES, MONEY, EFFORT. It all played apart of it.
The one person behind your back, breathing down your neck,
telling you all the things the INDUSTRY wants, but not you as
an artist, or even as a person of interest. It could remain all about
the others, what they wanted, but Jimmy knew he had to keep
his head up, and Grant would ALWAYS have his back, as Cole
was more of a friend to the band, than a manager, he was both,
living in the world of dreams off another living soul.“I don’t think ANYONE understand what the hell we sound like.
What we’re trying to do. I’m just making music, and will be till the
day I die.”
JIMMY SEEMED VERY CERTAIN, very sure of himself & the direction of HIS band ( that was territory Paul never quite ventured into … His main concern was not only making quality music, but keeping the band TOGETHER, despite the differences that continued to arise after Brian’s death. It was no use, but it was all Paul had… something that made him more controlling than usual in the end, for there was a VOID left in their manager’s absence, a void he sought to fill ) & perhaps that’s what concerned the seasoned musician. A band was not something to be owned, & that was the vibe he was receiving from the younger, something dangerous.
He gave a short laugh. “ Days of old? What, y ’ callin’ me OLD, then? ” A sarcastic jab in good fun as Paul’s eyesight falls with a soft shake of his head. “ Son, your sound is good, but we paved th ’ way for that sound ‘a yours. If y ’ think for a bloody second that we were playin’ th ’ music we were playin’ ‘cause some man at th'top TOLD US TO, well I’ve got some news for ya, ‘cause none of us were in it for th ’ FAME, y ’ know, not at first, anyway – I don’t know if y ’ knew that, but, it’s true, honest. We were just a couple LIVERPOOL BOYS in a SKIFFLE GROUP, y ’ know, that’s all there was to it b’fore fame came along. But PASSION was as real & alive then as it is NOW. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that when y ’ have t ’ force it, y ’ know, t ’ make somethin’ outta nothin’, it stops bein about th ’ music, th ’ passion, & it starts bein’ about yourself – th ’ fame – th ’ man at th ’ top 'a th ’ hill.”
“ Now don’t get m ’ wrong – we had our fair share ‘a deadlines, right, it’s not - it’s besides th ’ point, honestly. MUSIC’s heart & soul, y ’ know, but what good is it without someone t ’ share & make it with, aye? Listen, I get where you’re at, ‘ve been there before m’self . . . ” a deep breath, a cleansing drag as he finds himself once again where he had previously begun to trail off. “ And it means fuck all what I’ve t’say, right, you’re gonna go your own way, mate – I guess after a while y ’ just start t’ . . I donno, wish y’went about things better at th’time, even if y ’ weren’t in th ’ wrong. ”
